Wikipdia 30 Nov 2023: (Edward Idris Cassidy AC (5 July 1924 – 10 April 2021) was an Australian prelate of the Catholic Church who was president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity from 1989 to 2001. He headed the Commission of the Holy See for Religious Relations with the Jews. He spent most of his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See both in Rome and overseas. He was made a cardinal in 1991. He was ordained a priest in Sydney on 23 July 1949; he went to Rome to study canon law (doctorate, 1955) and joined the Vatican diplomatic service, working in India, Ireland, Portugal, El Salvador and Argentina; he was made a bishop and consecrated on 15 November 1970; he then worked in Bangladesh, Southern Africa and the Netherlands, then held positions in Rome.
