  • Wikipedia 26 February 2019 James Quinn (bishop) (James Quinn, also known as James O'Quinn (17 March 1819 – 18 August 1881), was the first Roman Catholic Bishop of Brisbane. He was born at Rathbane (or Athy), County Kildare. He was ordained priest in Rome on 15 August 1843, after studying at the Jesuit college. He then worked in Dublin. In June 1859 when the Diocese of Brisbane was created, Quinn was appointed the first bishop. He was consecrated in Dublin on 29 June 1859, but did not arrive in Queensland until 1861. He worked actively in Brisbane, and was widely respected. From 1875 he wished to be called O'Quinn. His brother Matthew was installed as bishop of Bathurst (N.S.W.) in 1866. He died at his home in Fortitude Valley.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Quinn_(bishop)
