- Andre-Adolphe-Eugene Disderi was born in 1819 in Paris; started his career as a daguerreotypist but gained fame for patenting his version of the carte de visite; moved from Brest to Paris in 1852; became very sucessfull but is reported to have died in near poverty in 1889 in Paris, in an institution.
