Adrian Lindley Trevor Cole (1895-1966) was born in Glen Iris, Victoria, Australia. He joined the army the outbreak of World War I, transferring to the Australian Flying Corps in 1916 where he was commissioned a second lieutenant. By 1917 Cole was flying reconnaissance and scouting missions in Sinai and Palestine. He flew with No. 1 squadron in the Middle East and No. 2 Squadron on the Western Front. Promoted to captain in 1917 Cole was posted to France as a flight commander with No. 2 Squadron AFC (also known as No. 68 Squadron Royal Flying Corps). Adrian Cole was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions on 7 October 1918. In 1921 he was a founding member of the R.A.A.F. After a distinguished career in both wars, he retired with the rank Air Vice Marshall.
