  • Australian Dictionary of Biography (online) 12 August 2022: (Matthew Brady (1799-1826), bushranger, was convicted for stealing at Manchester, England, and sentenced to transportation for seven years, in April 1820. He was further punished as a convict, and in 1823 was sent to Macquarie Harbour, western Tasmania. With companions he escaped and sailed to the Derwent River (on which Hobart Town is sited) and roamed as bushrangers, for two years. He was captured near Launceston and brought to Hobart for trial; he was convicted of murder and other crimes, and was hanged on 4 May 1826. His reputation was that he was violent only in self-defence.) https://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/brady-matthew-1822
