John Bradford, born in Sydney in 1946, was a member of the Liberal Party of Australia from 1973-1998. He served as the Federal Member for McPherson in Queensland from 1990 to 1998, and served on a number of Parliamentary committees, including the Joint Statutory Committee on the National Crime Authority, of which he was chairman from 1996-1998. In 1998, he resigned from the Liberal Party and continued to sit in Parliament as a member of the Christian Democratic Party, until he was defeated in the 1998 Federal Election. In 1999, he embarked on 5 years of missionary service with the medical charity, Mercy Ships. He went on to become Mission Development Director for The Bible Society in Australia (Queensland).
