Australian Doctionary of Biography (online) 29 July 2022: (Wright, Sir Roy Douglas (Pansy) (1907–1990). Sir Roy Douglas Wright (1907-1990), professor of physiology and university chancellor, was born on 7 August 1907 at Central Castra, Tasmania. After one year at the University of Tasmania, he took a scholarship at Queen's College, Melbourne, to study medicine at the University of Melbourne; there he acquired the nickname "Pansy." After further study with Howard Florey in Oxford he was appointed professor of physiology at the University of Melbourne, in 1939. He gathered formidable research teams, but did not hesitate to oppose efforts to separate research from university teaching. After retirement in 1971, he was deputy chancellor of the University, 1972-1980, then chancellor (1980-1989).
