Wikipedia 9 October 2020: (James Chalmers (4 August 1841 – 8 April 1901) was a Scottish-born missionary, active in New Guinea. he was born in Ardrishaig, Argyleshire, Scotland. In 1861, he joined the Glasgow City Mission as an evangelist. Eight months later, the London Missionary Society sent him to Cheshunt College near London. he was ordained a minister in 1865. In 1866, having been appointed to Rarotonga, he sailed to Australia, eventually reaching Rarotonga in May 1867. His native name there was Tamate. In 1877 he was moved to New Guinea, where among his missionary work he did much exploring.
