The Commonwealth Parliament Library came into being in 1901. From 1923 two forms of name were used concurrently: Commonwealth National Library and Commonwealth Parliament Library, to designate the national and parliamentary collections respectively. In 1960 the National Library of Australia was created by act of parliament, and the two collections were separated.
