  • Australian Dictionary of Biography (online) 9 January 2021: (Ada Cambridge (1844-1926), writer, was born on 21 November 1844 at St Germans, Norfolk, England. On 25 April 1870 she married George Frederick Cross, a curate, and they arrived in Melbourne on 19 August. Cross worked in several churches in Victoria. She began serious writing in 1873, to supplement family income; she was the first significant Australian woman poet. Altogether she produced twenty-one novels, three volumes of poetry, two autobiographies and contributed to such journals as the Atlantic Monthly and the Australian Ladies' Annual, along with contributions to periodicals. In 1913 she returned to England with her husband, who had resigned his last appointment in Williamstown, Victoria; after his death in 1913 she returned to Victoria, and died in Elsternwick on 19 July 1926.) http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/cambridge-ada-3145
