  • Wikipedia 11 October 2020: (Franz Ehrle, S.J., (17 October 1845 – 31 March 1934) was a German Jesuit priest and a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the Archivist of the Secret Archives of the Vatican, in the course of which he became a leading agent in the revival of Thomism in the teachings of the Catholic Church. He was born in Isny im Allgäu, Württemberg, and joined the Jesuits in 1861; part of his stdies was done at Ditton Hall, Liverpool (1873-1877). he was ordained priest in 1876, them moved to Belgium, then to work in the Vatican Archives in 1880. His bibliographical publications commenced in 1885. In 1895 he was appointed Prefect of the Vatican Library, until 1914; he was active in developing techniques of document preservation, and in library organization to support research.
