In 1949 King Edward VII College of Medicine and Raffles College merged to form the University of Malaya in Singapore. In 1959 the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur was established as a division of the University of Malaya in Singapore. In 1962 the Universiti Malaya was established as the national university of the Federation of Malaya (now Malaysia) succeeding the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur and the University of Malaya in Singapore, the latter becoming the University of Singapore. Works by these bodies are entered under the name used at the time of publication.
