Australian Dictionary of Biography (online) 29 December 2020: (William Woolls (1814-1893), Church of England clergyman, schoolmaster and botanist, was born on 30 March 1814 at Winchester, Hampshire, England. At 16 he migrated to Australia, reaching Sydney on 16 April 1832. He taught, and contributed to periodicals. In 1873 he was ordained in the Church of England and became incumbent of Richmond (N.S.W.). He was a keen botainist and became a member of the Linnean Society, and gained his Ph.D. from the University of Göttingen for his work.
