Australian Dictionary of Biography (online) 26 November 2020: (James (Jimmy) Dawson (1806-1900), pastoralist and friend of the Aboriginals, was born on 5 July 1806 at Bonnytoun, West Lothian, Scotland. He migrated to Port Phillip, arriving in May 1840; he first bought a property above Anderson's Creek (now Warrandyte) then moved to the Western District, first near Port, then near Camperdown, as a farmer and friend and student of the Aboriginals, and for some years protector.
