  • Australian Dictionary of Biography (online) 24 January 2022: (Clyde Cornwall Fenton (1901-1982), flying doctor, was born on 16 May 1901 at Warrnambool, Victoria. He studied at the University of Melbourne (B.Sc., 1922; MB, BS, 1925). In 1927 he was in practice at Wyndham, W.A.; he purchased a small plane, but crashed it, and left for Melbourne by ship, via Darwin, where he was persuaded to stay. He took some flight training in England with the R.A.F. but resigned, and returned to be medical officer at Katharine, N.T. with use of a plane. He did a great deal of work to make authorities conscious of the value of aircraft in the Territory. In 1940-1946 he served with the R.A.A.F. chiefly for freight transport. he then joined the Commonwealth Department of Health in Brisbane, transferring to Melbourne in 1949, and retiring in 1966.
