  • Wikipedia 30 August 2021: (Luise Anna Hercus AM FAHA, née Schwarzschild, (16 January 1926 – 15 April 2018) was a German-born linguist who lived in Australia from 1954. After significant early work on Middle Indo-Aryan dialects (Prakrits) she had specialised in Australian Aboriginal languages since 1963. Works authored or co-authored by her are influential, and often among the primary resource materials on many languages of Australia. She was born in Munich, took refuge in England in 1938, and studied at St. Anne's College, Oxford, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Oriental Studies in 1946, followed by an M.A. She was tutor and lecturer at St. Anne's College 1948-1954, when she emigrated to Australia. She married Graham Robertson Hercus. She began private research in Australian languages while a research fellow at the University of Adelaide; after 1969 she was appointed lecturer, later reader, in Sanskrit at the Australian National University, Canberra. She retired in 1990, and became a visiting fellow in the Department of Linguistics at ANU, continuing writing and field work. Altogether she made over 1,000 hours of audio recordings, largely unique material of the Aboriginal languages recorded. Her published work on Romance and early Indian languages is also significant.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luise_Hercus
