Max Harris - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia; viewed Nov. 13th, 2007 (Max Harris, AO (13th April 1921 - 13th January 1995) was an Australian poet, critic, columnist, commentator, publisher and bookseller. He was born in Adelaide, and wrote poetry from his early years. In 1940 he started the journal Angry Penguins, with which several prominent artists became involved. A.D. Hope, Harold Stewart and James McAuley and submitted poems as a hoax, under the pseudonym Ern Malley; Harris was prosecuted for onscenity but in the outcome was fined just five pounds. Later he ran the Mary Martin Bookshop in Adelaide, and later expanded it.
