Australian Dictionary of Biography (online) 18 January 2021: (Thomas Alexander Browne (1826-1915), pastoralist, police magistrate and gold commissioner, but best known as novelist 'Rolf Boldrewood', was born on 6 August 1826 in London. He arrived in Sydney with his family, aged 5, and moved to Melbourne in 1841. He became a pastoralist, until he moved to Sydney in 1869, becoming a magistrate and gold commissioner. In 1895 he retired to Melbourne, and died on 11 March 1915. He had written seriously since 1870.
