In 1983, Dale Spender was co-founder of and editorial advisor to Pandora Press. She was the series editor of Penguin's Australian Women's Library from 1987, and has been series editor of the Pandora Press series Mothers of the novel. She was born in Newcastle, New South Wales; after obtaining her MA, she taught in New South Wales; she started lecturing at James Cook University in 1974, before going to live in London. Much of her work is about language as a means of downplaying, silencing and intimidation of women. More lately she was been concerned with intellectual property, also with homelessness among women.
