  • ADB online 24 October 2016 Ullathorne, William Bernard (1806-1889) He was born in Pocklington, Yorkshire, England. He entered the Benedictines in 1824, and was ordained priest in 1831. He arrived in Sydney in February 1833 (after calling at Hobart) as vicar-general, and took control of a vexed Catholic clergy. In September 1835 Polding arrived as bishop, and Ullathorne became one of his priests, though he contionued to help with the bishop's official duties. He worked in Europe to win suppoort for the Australian mission for two years, afterwards returning to England to recruit teachers, clergy and nuns, returning on 31 December 1838; he finally departed Sydney on 15 November 1840.
