  • Australian Dictionary of Biography (online) 29 June 2020: (Mary Montgomerie Bennett (1881-1961), teacher and advocate of Aboriginal rights, was born on 8 July 1881 at Pimlico, London, daughter of Robert and Mary Christison. Her father ran Lammermoor Station in North Queensland, and she grew up with strong links to the Aboriginal workers on his run. She studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in London 1903-1908. After the sale of Lammerrmoor she settled with her parents at Barwell Park in Lincolnshire, England. In 1914 she married Charles Douglas Bennett. After her husband died in 1927, she moved to Perth, Western Australia, in 1930 and devoted herself to the welfare of Aborigines, particularly women and children. She returned to England in 1940, and was back in Australia about 1950; she retired to Kalgoorlie and died there on 6 October 1961.) http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/bennett-mary-montgomerie-5212
