The United States Federal Power Commission was established in 1920. The Federal Energy Office was established in 1973; in 1974 it became the Federal Energy Administration. The United States Atomic Energy Commission was established in 1946. In 1974 it was abolished and replaced by the Energy Research and Development Administration and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. In 1977 the Federal Power Commission, Federal Energy Administration, and Energy Research and Development Administration were combined to form the Dept. of Energy. Works by these bodies are found under the name used at the time of publication.
