In 1957 the Society of Technical Writers and the Association of Technical Writers and Editors (both founded in 1953) merged to form the Society of Technical Writers and Editors. In 1960 the Society of Technical Writers and Editors merged with the Technical Publishing Society (founded 1954) to form the Society of Technical Writers and Publishers. In 1971 the name of the Society of Technical Writers and Publishers changed to Society for Technical Communication. Works by these bodies are found under the name used at the time of publication.
