  • Wikipedia 11 May 2019: Nancy Wake (Nancy Grace Augusta Wake, AC, GM (30 August 1912 – 7 August 2011) was a secret agent during the Second World War. She was born in Welolington, New Zealand, moved to Sydney, N.S.W. in 1914, worked as a nurse, then moved to New York and then London, where she trained herself as a journalist. In the 1930s she worked in Paris; in 1939 she married French industrialist Henri Edmond Fiocca (1898–1943), who was killed by the Gestapo. After the fall of France to the Germans in 1940 she worked with the French Resistance. In 1942 she escaped and went to England, where she joined the Special Operations Executive. In 1944 she was parachuted into the Auvergne and reorganized the Resistance very effectively. After the end of the war, she received high awards for her actions. She returned to Sydney and stood unsuccessfully as a candidate in Australian Commonwealth elections. In 1951 she returned to London, marrying John Forward in 1957; they returned to Australia in the early 1960s, and Wake stood again as a candidate in 1966. Her autobiography, The White Mouse, was published in 1985. After her husband died in 1997, she retruned to London in 2001, settling in Richmond, where she died, aged 98.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Wake
