It provides an extensive but not exhaustive list of the saints recognized by the Church. It was first published in 1583 by Pope Gregory XIII, followed by revised editions. Following the Second Vatican Council (1962-65) exstensive revision was undertaken for a new edition, issued in 2001 and further revised in 2005.)
