Wikipedia 17 August 2021: (Robert Rainy (1 January 1826 – 22 December 1906), was a Scottish Presbyterian divine. He was born on 1 January 1826 in Glasgow. Initially he studied medicine at the University of Glasgow, and following the Disruption of 1843 moved to study at New College, Edinburgh and was ordained a Free Church minister in 1851. In 1862 he became Professor of Church History at New College, and became Principal in 1874. he was regarded as a leader of the Free Church (Moderator, 1887). In 1900 he was among those who withdrew from the Free Church of Scotland to form the United Free Church of Scotland, being its first Moderator. In 1904-05 his health failed; he made a trip to Melbourne for recovery, and died there on 22 December 1906.
