Born in Jackson's Track, near Warragul in Victoria, Lionel Edward Rose, MBE (21 June 1948-8 May 2011) was an Australian boxer, who became the first Aboriginal in boxing history to win a world title in 1968 (Bantamweight Division). In the same year he was the first Australian Aboriginal person to be named Australian of the Year and was also appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire.
