Wikipedia 30 July 2020: (Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen (1621/22 – 17 August 1676) was a German author. He is best known for his 1669 picaresque novel Der abenteuerliche Simplicissimus. Grimmelshausen was born at Gelnhausen. As a child he was kidnapped and lived among soldiers in the Thirty Years' War. He was engaged by the Bishop of Strasbourg after the war, and in 1665 was appointed magistrate in Renchen, and devoted himself to literary pursuits. He died in Renchen.
