  • Australian Dictionary of Biography (online) 28 November 2020: Geoghegan, Patrick Bonaventure (1805–1864) (Patrick Bonaventure Geoghegan (1805-1864), Roman Catholic bishop, was born in Dublin and baptized on 17 March 1805. he studied in Ireland and Lisbon, and was ordained priest on 21 February 1830. he was recruited by Dr. Ullathorne for work in Australia, arriving in Sydney on 31 December 1837. He worked in Bathurst (N.S.W.), then was sent to Melbourne, where he celebrated Mass on 19 May 1838,k and commenced building St. Francis's church, opened in 1845. In 1846-7 he visited Hobart Town. He was made Vicar-general by the new bishop, James Goold; inb 1849-1851 he was in Ireland to recruit priests for Australia. In 1858 he was appointed bishop of Adelaide, consecrated on 8 September 1859, and set about opening Catholic schools and establishing new churches. He travelled to Europe in 1862, and on 10 March 1864 was translated to the new diocese of Goulburn, but he fell ill in Dublin and died there on 9 May 1864.) http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/geoghegan-patrick-bonaventure-3602
