Australian Dictionary of Biography (online) 6 September 2021: (Howard Willoughby (1839-1908), journalist, was born on 19 June 1839 at Birmingham, England. He arrived in Melbourne in 1857, and was employed as a journalist from 1861; he worked for The Argus 1862-1866, then became one of the original Hansard staff. From 1869 to 1877 he was the first editor of the Melbourne paper Daily Telegraph, then returned to the Argus; from March 1898 he was the editor, until a stroke forced him to retire in 1903.
