ADB online 15 July 2018 (Richard Johnson (1753?-1827), Church of England clergyman, was the son of John Johnson, of Welton, Yorkshire, England. He entered Magdalene College, Cambridge (B.A., 1784). He was ordained in 1784, and on October 24 received a royal warrant appointing him 'Chaplain to the settlement' of New South Wales'. He arrived in Sydney on the First Fleet and celebrated the colony's first service on 3 February 1788. He left Sydney in October 1800, arriving in England in May 1801.
