  • Australian Dictionary of Biography (online) 26 October 2021: (Charles Henry Bertie (1875-1952), librarian and historian, was born at Lionsville, Clarence River, New South Wales, on 18 July 1875. His family moved to Sydney, and about 1899 he joined Sydney Municipal Council, and rose to be chief clerk. In 1909 he was appointed first librarian of the new Sydney Municipal Library; in 1923 he issued a report on his visit to public libraries in the United States. He retired in 1939, having become a notable collector of Australiana, his collections now in the Mitchell Library. In retirement he was prominent in the Royal Australian Historical Society, and assisted bibliographer Sir John Ferguson.
