  • ADB online 26 February 2017 (John Lillie (1806-1866), Presbyterian minister, was the fourth son of David Lillie, a Glasgow merchant. He arrived in Hobart (Tas.) in September 1837 and was accepted as leader of the Presbyterians in the colony. Despite disruption in Scotland he kept Tasmanian Presbyterians united, succeeded in having Presbyterianism ranked equally with Anglicanism, and worked against denominationally-based primary education. Education was a constant concern, and he was a foundation member and office-bearer of the Royal Society of Tasmania. He returned to Britain in 1856, then moved to Christchurch, N.Z., in 1862. He died there on 15 January 1866.) http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/lillie-john-2360
