What is Personalisation?
Currently many existing Libraries Australia User-IDs for Libraries Australia are 'shared accounts' which means that any default settings apply to everyone using that account. Libraries Australia now has the functionality to allow anyone using a shared account to create their own personal login.
This will enable individual users to:
- create a personal login
- choose their own user-id and password
- save records and queries into a personal folder
- specify which search screen will display at login
- customise default databases for searching
- choose up to three libraries as "my libraries"
If requested, personal logins can also be given permission to:
- create alerts in a personal folder
- request interlibrary loans
Activating Personalisation
Libraries who wish to activate personalisation and allow their organisation/patrons to create personal logins should provide the Help Desk with the following information in writing:
- A list of the Libraries Australia User-IDs that the library wants personal logins to be created from
- Specify whether personal logins can:
- access pay per search databases (APAIS/APAFT)
- create alerts
- request interlibrary loans
- access Libraries Australia via the library's internal authentication system or from any internet connected computer
Once an account has been setup to allow the creation of personal logins, anyone logging into the 'shared account' will see an option to 'create a personal account.' Selecting this option will enable the user to create their own login for immediate use. Any searching done by this user will appear in Libraries Australia usage reports against the new personal User-ID.

Creating Personal logins
Once an account has been set up to allow the creation of personal logins, anyone logging into the 'shared account' will see an option to 'create a personal account'. Selecting this option will enable the user to create their own login for immediate use, choosing their own user-id and password. Once you have created a personal login you will see a confirmation web screen and an email will be sent to you. In order for us to verify your personal login you will need to click on the link in the email within 48 hours. If you don't, your login will be deleted.
Choosing a Username
You will need to choose a username. Choose an alpha-numeric username which is a minimum of six-characters. If you choose a username that already exists, you will be prompted with suggestions for another username.
Choosing a Password
You will need to choose a password. Your password should be a minimum of six-characters in length and have at least one non-alpha character (eg. 8).
Secret Question
If you forget your password, you will be asked this secret question. Your secret answer will be used to identify your login and you will then be able to create a new password.
