By default, the summary search result screen gives you immediate access to the first 10 results returned from each database you chose to search on. The default display may be set to 10, 20, 50 or 100 records at a time from each database. Simply click on the "Show all"button then select a number in the drop-down box which may be found at the top or the bottom of the screen, and then click on the "Go" button.

Select all
Click the “Select all” button to select all results on the current page display. Please note that the “Select all” button applies to the current page, while “Deselect all” applies to all pages.
You can select 10, 20, 50 or 100 items per page display by clicking the “Show all” button beside each database result from the Summary Results page. Click on the first drop down box and choose , for example, “100” per page and then click “Go”. When the page display has refreshed, click on the “Select all” button and the 100 items will be selected.
Results of your search query
On the "Summary" panel on the left-hand side of the screen you will see:
- your search query term(s);
- a list of the databases searched; and
- the number of records returned from each database.
Try Google™ or Yahoo!
To try your search on the Internet using Google™ or Yahoo!, click on the appropriate icon at the bottom of the "Summary" panel and your search query terms will be sent to, and searched by the search engine of your choice.
Record display
In the centre of the results screen you will see:
- the name of the first database in which the first 20 records displayed on the screen were found, together with the total number of records resulting from your search in that database , eg Australian NBD Titles – first 20 out of 100 ;
- the first 20 records displayed in brief format, eg author, title, imprint, physical description, ISBN (International Standard Book Number) or ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) ; and
- a note at the end of the record telling you the number of libraries who have a copy of this item, and if your library has a copy of the item .
Sorting results
By default, Libraries Australia sorts result sets by date of publication with the most recent first. You can, however, change the sort order by selecting the "Show all" button beside each database result from the Summary Results page. From this display, select the preferred sort option (ie Title, A-Z or Z-A, Author, A-Z or Z-A or Date, Earliest/Latest first) and click the "Go" button to re-sort the preferred number of results per page display.
Please note, catalogue records appearing at the end of sorted result sets may have:
- publication dates of more/less than four characters;
- publication dates without a digit as the first character in the date field; or
- publication dates of 0000 or starting with 3.
Navigation
Records
You can navigate to the next 20 records, the previous 20 records, the first record, the last record etc, by going to the the top or the bottom of the display and then using the arrow buttons, or the "Jump To" options. For larger sets of results, the 'go to end' arrow will not function until you have viewed all of the results.
Databases
To look at the records resulting from the second, or other database searched, go to the left hand column at the top of the screen and click on the number of records beside the name of that database, eg Picture Australia 205, click on 205 to go the data from PictureAustralia.
Full View
To view more details for any item, you can use either of the following options:
- click on the title of the item, or
- select the item by clicking the checkbox to the left hand side of the item and then click on the "View" button at the top of the result display.
To view all records one after the other, eg 1 then 2, 3, 4, 5, etc, use option 1 above:
Example - do not use the checkboxes on the left hand side, instead click on the title of record no. 1 which will be presented in its Full View, then click the forward arrow to bring up record no. 2, and so on.
To view only selected records, eg 1 then 4, 7, 8, etc, use option 2 above:
Example - select the items of interest by clicking the checkboxes on the left hand side - eg records 1, 4, 7 and 8 - and then click on the "View" button at the top of the results display. You will then see the Full View of the first selected record and you can then click on the forward arrow to bring up the Full View of records 4, 7, 8 and so on.
